I still believe there is beauty in decay. It may not always be kind or fair, but there is something peculiarly peaceful about the earth reclaiming something natural or man-made.

Photo: "A Wreck Among Trees"
The San Juan Mountains in Colorado are speckled with hundreds of mines. I wish I had the time to photograph and explore them all...
Photo: "Working Hands"
The Knight Foundry is located in Sutter Creek California and was founded in 1873. This facility remained in operation until 1996 and is one of the only remaining water-powered facilities remaining in the United States.

The Knight Foundry, located in Sutter Creek California, was founded in 1873 and remained in operation until 1996.
This foundry utilized the Knight Wheel to use water to power the line shafts and belt drives.
Photo: "Mine Rails"
This mine was founded in the early 1800's, but unfortunately, not much history can be found about this mine after 1916. Though the mil structure is long gone, but its adit and shafts still exist today.
This image was lit with (2) Lume Cubes and a NiteCore flashlight.
(Disclaimer: Mines are very dangerous. Do not venture into these places without proper equipment or without someone who is educated about the hazards.)
Photo: "Power Plant Catwalks"
Pano taken on the catwalks inside an abandoned power plant in Alabama. This plant once powered the nearby Beaunit Rayon Factory, which has since been demolished.
Photo: "Cedar Creek Grist Mill"
This last year has taught me many things. I realized, once again, that when your mind is open to new adventures, a new adventure has the ability to land in your lap. It sounds so basic, but if you have tunnel vision and are only focused on one thing, it can be really difficult to see the things around you.
This photograph is a mix of my love for historic/abandoned places and nature, but this was not an easy place to shoot. Maybe it was the day. Maybe it was the weather. Maybe it was the fact that I was trying to shoot just the mill. Whatever it was that caused me to stand there and absorb my surroundings for a while, allowed me to see the things around me and create this image.
Photo: "Hartsville Reactor Building"
Vertical pano taken inside the reactor building at the unfinished Nuclear Power Plant in Hartsville, Tennessee.
The Tennessee Valley Authority halted construction on this plant in 1983 when the desire for nuclear power began to decrease.

Photo: "Ivy & I-Beams"
I always love seeing nature reclaim an abandoned space...
Photo: "Sloss Furnaces"
Sometimes an opportunity presents itself and you just have to go for it. This was one of those evenings.
This site has been closed since the 1960's, but it was once a major contributor to iron production for nearly 80 years.
Photo: "Comstock Mine"
I visited Virginia City, Nevada for the first time earlier this year and found myself a few hundred steps from the hotel, photographing this mine beneath the moonlight on our second night there. It was magical.
